CLAY 2018: Thunder Bay

Band 2014

Carlyn Graff – Vocals

CarlynCarlyn Graff has lived in Winnipeg, MB (also known as the city that was colder than Mars) all her life. Music has been a central part of her life, with her first performance at the wee age of three, in church. It was a very fitting place to start, as music and worship have been closely linked since. For the past four years, she has been the lead singer of the MNO (Manitoba Northwestern Ontario) Synod youth worship band, Prairie Fire. She has performed in over a dozen musicals, she plays guitar, and she composes her own songs.  She likes to stay active, so soccer, volleyball, basketball and other sports have kept her busy.  She is currently working on her Kinesiology degree, which focuses on health, fitness, and active living, at the University of Winnipeg. As a youth, she attended all the national gatherings she was able to, and she is very excited to be returning in 2014 as part of the music team.

Zack Ingles – Guitar

ZackHailing from the Okanagan Valley in BC,  Zack is the Youth/Young Adult Minister & Music Director at St. Albans Church in Ottawa, ON. In his spare time Zack is a songwriter and session musician. Though he was baptized as an Anglican, he spent the majority of his life worshipping in the Vineyard Church. “It was 100% spirit-led that God has brought me into the Anglican Church for this season of my life. I tend to find God waiting for me in the last places I ever would have looked.” Be sure to ask him about his story. It’s a wild ride.

Evan Irwin – Drums

EvanEvan Irwin grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. So being from Winterpeg….errrr  Winnipeg, he is used to what feels like a never-ending and extremely cold winter! Though without winter he wouldn’t have had the free time to practice his instruments instead of freezing outside! He started playing his first instruments at the age of 5 (the violin) and instantly found one of his biggest passions in life, music! He eventually found percussion instruments (specifically the drums) and decided to make them his primary instrument and has been playing them for about 14 years now!

Evan cannot wait for the gathering! Music and faith has always been a huge part of his life and he feels very excited and blessed to be able to share both with everyone at Kamloops!

Kate Langrell – Keyboard

KateI’m from Winnipeg, but moved to Toronto in August to go to grad school at the U of Toronto. I’m studying library and information science, and am loving it. To take a break from studying (and because it’s awesome), sometimes I go to Toronto’s Little Trinity Anglican church with my two lovely roommates. My home church is St. Mark’s Lutheran in Winnipeg.

I think that I love libraries and churches for some of the same reasons. Both are places in which I believe all people should feel welcome, safe, and comfortable asking for help. Both are places that foster learning, and support people who might be interested in some kind of self-improvement, perhaps. Finally both places tend to focus on building community between people, and care about bettering the community of which they are a part.

Libraries, however, are less conducive to rocking out than I’ve found churches to be! I played keyboard in the MNO youth band Prairie Fire for a little over 4 years, and played in the CLAY 2012 national band last time (in Saskatoon) which was amazing. I felt incredibly blessed to share that experience with so many youth and leaders – some of you I’ll undoubtedly be seeing for a second time – and I can’t wait to be a part of this fantastic event with all of you!

Stephanie Reynolds – Vocals and Rhythm Guitar

StephanieSteph Reynolds is a former neuroscientist from Calgary Alberta. She currently works as a Barista extraordinaire, which is the perfect cover for spreading Jesus’ love. She also attends art college, which is nothing like neuroscience and therefore she loves it. She also sometimes gets tired of talking in third person. I (Steph) love music. I taught myself to play guitar while working at summer camp and fell in love (with guitar and singing). I enjoy writing songs and singing worship songs. I recently spent 6 months attending Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in New Zealand learning about music and worship.

I am also passionate about Jesus! I grew up in the church, but it wasn’t until my late teens that I really understood what it means to be Christian. It was then that I started to really seek out a relationship with God, and I started my journey with him. It has been a long rocky road but Jesus continues to surprise me and love me and take me to places that I never thought I would go! Jesus is THE coolest person.

Many random facts about myself: (1) My favorite color is green. (2) If I could be anything in the world I would be an elf. (3) One time, I researched Black Howler monkeys in the Belizean rainforest where I narrowly escaped getting peed on by a monkey. (4) The first time I went to Disney World was when I was 21. (5) I was a vegetarian for 5 years but now all I eat is meat. (6) My Jeep’s name is Clyde. (7) My favorite animal is the octopus. (8) I’m tall. (9) I am kind of (really) a coffee snob. (10) My hands and feet are always really cold, and I like it that way. (11) I have never been to a CLAY gathering, and I am really excited to have the opportunity to be a part of it! (12) Eleven facts is probably enough…
