Volunteers

Volunteers are a critical part of CLAY, providing first aid support, pastoral care, and assistance with all aspects of event logistics. If you are committed to creating the best CLAY experience for the participants, we want to hear from you!

CLAY needs 100+ volunteers and there are opportunities for everyone to join the team!

Volunteer FAQ

Volunteers do not need to be part of ELCIC or ACC congregations, however all volunteers need to support the values of CLAY.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and able to be in Calgary during CLAY. Most volunteer positions require volunteers to be on site at SAIT.  Some shifts may require travel offsite. Details of travel requirements will be provided with shift descriptions and updated close to the event.

All volunteers are required to submit a Police Information Check as well as a Vulnerable Sector Check, from their local police or RCMP. Volunteers may choose to submit a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector check completed since August 01, 2019, rather than have a new one performed. The submitted background checks will be kept confidential and stored by the ELCIC national office.

Volunteers who require new checks will be provided with a letter stating that these checks are requested for a volunteer position. This should reduce the cost to $0-$15.00 depending on the jurisdiction. CLAY may be able to pay for or reimburse this cost, we do not want this to be a barrier to participation as a volunteer. As each jurisdiction across Canada is different, the process varies depending on where you live. When you apply, you will receive instructions for your local area.

Volunteers should ensure that their checks are submitted as soon as possible, no later than June 30, 2020. Volunteers who have not completed the background checks will not be permitted to volunteer with CLAY.

include registration, event supervision, pastoral care, first aid, transportation, LGG support and more.  These roles are described in greater detail in the online application. Some skills require specific certification, most do not.

The first part of the application requests information about you.

The second section allows you to select shifts. Use the filter key to see only the shifts for the role(s) you are interested in. Shifts have varying times, please ensure you do not select shifts which overlap. Requested shifts will be confirmed when your application is reviewed.

Communication with volunteers will primarily occur by email, however phone numbers and addresses will be collected as well.

We know that volunteers do their best to meet their commitments but sometimes life throws us an unexpected curveball. We ask that you let us know as soon as possible if something will prevent you from fulfilling your shift. Instructions for how to do that will depend on how close to the event we are and will be provided at each step along the way. Block August 20-23, 2020 on your calendar now so you will have the best chance to make the most of volunteering at CLAY!
