Introducing The CLAY 2021 Band!
The first song I learned to play on the guitar was "Earl Had To Die" by the Dixie Chicks (it was a real hot song in the early 2000's, ok?). I went on to cut my musical chops as a camp counsellor at Camp Kuriakos with such hits as "The Moose Song", "The Pasta Song", and the genre-defining "Jaybird". My big break came in 2014 when the band (which included the euphonius Anna Kochendorfer) went on tour to play the side stage at CLAY Kamloops. We also made $9 busking at the farmer's market. When I'm not shredding on my axe, I like to shred the trails on my mountain bike or my snowboard, water my houseplants, and practice catching snacks in my mouth.
Lily is very excited to be in the CLAY Band for EnRoute 2020! Lily is a high school teacher in Ottawa, Ontario where she attends Christ Church Bells Corners (Anglican). She's been an avid member of their worship team and youth group leadership team for several years. She's also been an active member of her church's parish council, and volunteers at many events throughout the year. CLAY 2018 was her first CLAY, and she loved her experience in the band! It was an amazing opportunity for her make new friendships, deepen her faith, learn new things, and worship with Anglicans and Lutherans from all over Canada! She knows how much fun CLAY can be, and hopes that you'll have lots of fun at CLAY too! If you see her around CLAY, don't be afraid to say hi!
Lucas is 18 years old and just graduated high school this past June. He enjoys travelling, exploring the great outdoors, and of course, music. He was forced into piano lessons at a young age and later progressed into a more rockin' instrument, the drums. His role model drummers include Larnell Lewis, John Bonham, and Dave Grohl. Church has always been a big part of Lucas' life and the church has given him many opportunities to further his musical talents. CLAY will be the largest group he has ever played in front of. He hopes to provide energy and a sense of renewal for everyone there.
Hiya! Anna here! I am an avid lover of unplanned adventure, whether it's close to home or far away. To date, I've traveled in and around parts of every continent except Antarctica - though that is high on the list. I am also currently teaching myself ASL and accordion, as I love to stretch my limits and learn new skills. I also love all sports and anything that involves the winter. I am so excited to be a returning member of the CLAY band. It was amazing witnessing and experiencing as God moved and breathed throughout the gathering, and I'm so ready for what He has in store for us this time around.
Hello again CLAY friends and fam. I'm excited to help you worship God and rock the low end again. I grew up in Ontario, and moved to Calgary in the summer of 2019 with my soon to be wife and our cat Jack. I'm self taught in guitar, bass, and drums, and I use music as a way to serve and give back to the church community. If you're interested in what that means and want to use music as an output to worship more, I'd love to talk to you. Also, if you're walking around the campus and see me, don't be afraid to stop me and say hi! I love meeting new people!
My name is Lexy, and I am excited to be a member of the CLAY band! I am from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and attend Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Music is my passion. I have been singing and playing various instruments from a young age, and I enjoy writing and making music with others. My primary instrument is voice, but I also play the piano, guitar, flute and saxophone. I received a Bachelor of Music from Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg in spring 2019, where I had the opportunity to study the involvement of music within the church. Currently, I am studying at the University of Manitoba in pursuit of a teaching degree in elementary music education. At Gloria Dei, I am involved musically as a service planner and band leader and I am currently working on incorporating more contemporary worship music into our weekly services. I am excited to experience CLAY from a different vantage point, and to serve God as a fellow leader in this amazing organization. For me CLAY is a place where anyone of any age, whether they are a participant, leader, volunteer or a member of service, can expand their knowledge and love of their faith. I can’t wait to make music with all of you! Some fun facts about me: my favorite color is purple, I am a makeup enthusiast, I love to read, I love dogs (especially my pup Maya), I write my own music, I enjoy Bible journaling, I’m a Hufflepuff, and, obviously, am a HUGE music nerd! See you soon!
