CLAY 2018: Thunder Bay

Theme: Not For Sale

We’re excited to officially announce the theme for CLAY 2016: “Not For Sale”! Throughout the Gathering, we’ll be exploring this theme in three parts:

a) Salvation not for sale

b) Human beings not for sale

c) Creation not for sale

Before the Gathering, you may wish to reflect on how these Bible passages relate to our theme:

“13 The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. 15 Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 He told those who were selling the doves, ‘Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father’s house a marketplace!’ ” John 2:13-16 (NRSV)

“26 Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind[a] in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth,[b] and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’ ” Genesis 1:26 (NRSV)

The theme of CLAY 2016 ties in with the Lutheran World Federation’s journey towards the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation in 2017. For more information on the celebration, “Liberated By God’s Grace,” check out their website:
